New information concerning anesthesia and surgery for the morbidly obese patient

چکیده
DURING the past 6 years, 126 patients with Hodgkin's disease have been treated adequately with Vinblastine. All patients either presented with Stage III or IV disease (Rye classification) or have developed recurrent disease after radiotherapy has been given previously for more localised disease. Most of the patients have had systemic manifestations. Although a rapid response to Vinblastine is frequently seen, a few patients who are going to respond do so slowly over a period of 3-4 weeks. For this reason patients who have received less than 4 weeks' treatment have been excluded from the report because the treatment has been inadequate.

Airway management using the intubating laryngeal mask airway for the morbidly obese patient.
UNLABELLED We studied the effectiveness of the intubating laryngeal mask airway (ILMA) in morbidly obese patients scheduled for bariatric surgery. We included 118 consecutive morbidly obese patients (body mass index, 45 +/- 5 kg/m(2)). After the induction of general anesthesia, the laryngeal view was classified by the first observer according to the method of Cormack and Lehane. The ILMA was th...

OBJECTIVE To assess the effect of sevoflurane anesthesia on hepatic function in morbidly obese versus non-obese patients undergoing abdominal surgeries. METHODS We prospectively evaluated the levels of the serum concentration of liver enzymes aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (A...
متن کاملIsobaric spinal anesthesia: a suitable approach for a morbidly obese patient.
Morbid obesity is a relatively common and vastly increasing condition that can have a profound impact on morbidity and mortality during the administration and maintenance of general and regional anesthesia. Physiological derangements, difficult airway management, and biological augmentation in pharmacokinetics are some of the clinical challenges involved with this particular patient population....
متن کاملThe Prophylactic Use of Lipid Emulsion Therapy in the Excision of Invasive Malignant Melanoma under Local Anaesthetic in a Morbidly Obese Patient
We present the first reported case of the prophylactic use of lipid emulsion therapy in the removal of an extensive, circumferential malignant melanoma in a morbidly obese patient, under local anaesthetic. The advantages of this technique allowed the patient to avoid intraoperative invasive monitoring and postoperative critical care admission and assisted during the operation by rotating her le...
متن کاملFactors affecting the early post-operative prognosis in morbidly obese surgical patients after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy – a retrospective cohort study
Background The number of morbidly obese patients who have undergone bariatric surgery has been gradually increasing in Japan. These obese patients are often complicated with metabolic, cardiac, respiratory, and other diseases. The aim of this study was to analyze the perioperative clinical course in a retrospective cohort with respect to the utility of anesthesia management in order to prevent ...
